T-shirts with quirky artwork are gaining fascination among buyers

There was a time when superhero T-shirts were one of a kind. Those who were into sarcastic humour T-shirts had to comb several branded stores and retail outlets to find what they liked. This is however not the case today. Thanks to several clothing and other merchandise websites, people can now indulge their individual tastes. Web-portals like bushirt.com, thesouledstore.com, bewakoof.com and lots more have churned out T-shirts with quirky artwork, witty one-liners from day to day life, slogans from popular movies and TV series. These have become so popular among the young adults as well as working professionals mainly because they are comfortable being who they are.

Aditya Sharma, co-founder and director of thesouledstore.com wanted to create a one-stop solution for such merchandise. “Earlier if you wanted to buy Harry Potter T-shirts or something similar you had to ask your relatives who live abroad to buy it for you. Since I was interested in pop culture, TV shows and superheroes, I realised that there was no single platform which sold their T-shirts in our country,” he adds.

Saurabh Nagshain, a Technology Specialist at Wells Fargo, Hyderabad is one young professional who believes that these tees are downright unique, oozing attitude. “T-shirts with witty taglines like ‘ tu 13 dekh’, ‘ the incredible halka ’ show what I am. I am a great fan of caricature prints, logos and attitude phrases on the T-shirts. I also like the superhero movie symbol t-shrits,” he adds. Aboli Ballal, a final year design student from NIFT, Hyderabad describes these tops as exciting , which make a statement about your personality. “The moustache print, fruit prints which vary according to the season are a few which I normally wear. Websites like Happily Unmarried, bewakoof.com and even Chumbak have a wide and attractive collection of these T-shirts,” says Aboli.

Aboli’s classmate Neetu Patel believes that the reason why these tees are trending right now is because there is a lot of craze for American TV series. “These prints and slogans are somehow soothing and unusual. ‘I need space’, ‘Winter is Coming’, ‘ karam karo kand nahi’ etc are few of the slogans that I absolutely love,” reveals Neetu. Others feel that since these tops are so catchy and funny, they turn out to be topics for starting a conversation. Says Prashanti Nagashree, a graduate of design, “People have actually talked to me about the slogan T-shirt of mine ‘Ssshh.. Desh So Raha Hai’. I like these tees because they reflect your state of mind at that point of time,” she adds cheerfully.

The attractive prices of these T-shirts are another reason why people buy them from such websites. Several websites also offer discounted rates which make it affordable for students. To make life more interesting, these prints are also visible on mobile covers, laptop skins, mugs, coasters as well as pillows and wall-art graphics.

So, if you’ve got something on your mind – be not afraid. Just grab a quirky tee and flaunt your thoughts to your heart’s content.
