As you grow older and wiser, your skin also grows older with you, showing signs of the journey you have been on. Just because the beauty industry constantly tells you to stop ‘ageing’ and look ‘younger’, it doesn’t mean you have to listen to them. Embrace your skin, show it the love it deserves, and treat yourself to products that will help you enhance your natural beauty.

The base

When it comes to makeup, less is most certainly more. There are some beautifully formulated base products in the market that glide over the skin and don’t settle in lines or wrinkles.

If you happen to be looking for a primer that is both silicone based and lightweight, while making the skin appear more even, the Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer (₹800 on cultbeauty.com) is the answer to your prayers.

My most recent foundation discovery is the Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation in SPF 40 (₹5,700 at nykaa.com) blends into the skin beautifully, giving it a subtle glow, while being hydrating and setting just enough that it doesn’t move around.

The Ordinary’s Serum Foundation (₹700 on cultbeauty.com) is a lightweight foundation option that happens to build into a medium coverage dewy finish effectively.

Concealing

When it comes to concealing the under eye, especially with pigmentation, I would suggest Bobbi Brown’s Tinted Eye Brightener (₹2,650 at nykaa.com) is wonderful combination of a corrector + moisturising concealer. The By Terry Terribly Densiliss Concealer (₹3,925 on cultbeauty.com) is also a great moisturising concealer which sets and stays in place, taking away the need for powder.

Speaking of powder, avoiding pressed powder is a brilliant idea as it tends to mattify the skin and take away all the dimension we have worked so hard to create with the hydrating base products. So ditch the compact for a finely milled loose powder such as the By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Powder (₹3,750 on cultbeauty.com) or the Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre (₹4,250), both of which will set your makeup without leaving the skin looking powdery.

Adding colour

Ditch he contour for a subtle blush. If you prefer a cream product which can be blended in with your fingers, the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lip and Cheek (₹2,900) is a kit staple. MAC’s Cream Colour Bases (₹1,850) have a small amount of shimmer running through them which can add to the overall ‘glow’.

However, if you like a bit of a bronze, the Chanel Soliel de tan De Chanel (₹3,250) is a warm cream bronzer that sets well and can add gentle definition to the face when used both under and over makeup.

Subtle eyes

If there was a time to ditch the cream products, it would be with eye makeup. As the skin matures, the eyelids become loser and more textured, because of which cream products don’t glide on the way they should and settle into the creases.

Start placing any eyeshadow right at the lashline and blend upwards with a fluffy brush. Also, ditch the eyeliners and eye pencils for black or brown eyeshadow – it gives you more subtle definition. Mascara will further help intensify the emphasis on the eyes. Charlotte Tilbury’s Full, Fat Lashes (₹ 2,050 on cultbeauty.com) is particularly voluminous and, most importantly, easy to remove.

Soft lips

Try a lip liner to softly define the lips like Charlotte Tibury’s Lip Cheats (₹ 2,050 on cultbeauty.com) — great products that are softer than the average lip liner, but stay on all day long. If you prefer a glossy lip, the YSL Tint-in-oil (₹2,050) are moisturising oils that leave a lovely stain on the lips.
