One can easily point out that tons of chamki can frankly come across as cheap and tasteless, resembling the clothing we find in open-air markets, hung outside as lures. But when these embellishments are done right, it can turn an ensemble from fever-inducing to something truly worth countless selfies. And just because Deepavali is over, it doesn’t mean we can’t be a walking Festival of Lights ourselves.

Style icon for moms and minions Kareena Kapoor took the trend to a different level recently. Sporting a high-neck bodycon midi dress by Atelier Zuhra, Kareena let her usually eye-grabbing accessories take a break. The dress, resembling a mirrored mosaic stole the show at a recent awards show.

Retailers are keeping us in mind too, with racks upon racks of sequined innovations and familiar favourites, be it hats and shoes or complete jumpsuits - and don’t you just love it when you don’t have to pay extra for a body’s worth of dazzle?

Dress your face

Let’s not forget the face, people, because lip kits, eye looks and highlights are embracing this trend. Big names in cosmetics such as Pat McGrath, Natasha Denona, ColorPop and Huda Beauty have each cornered this market in their own individualistic ways — Pat McGrath loves the hedonistic while Huda Beauty is all about Insta-Glam. But one thing they all nail is the right texture and finish to keep up the high-class lustre.

From a skincare aspect, glitter and sequined face masks have become a thing too; mainly from bloggers and beauty gurus mixing these substances into their normal masks. Why? Well, why can’t we look fabulous even when we’re winding down for the day?

Techies too

For those who don’t necessarily want all this shine for their wardrobebut still want to be a part of this very productive movement, there are a ton of active and responsive filters in apps such as KiraKira or Snapchat that will have you sending signals to the sun in no time at all.
