My Grandma's Recipe - How to make...Rice puttu

Rice Puttu.  

Rice puttu is a delicious, steam-cooked, easy-to make sweet dish. I learnt this recipe from my mother.

What you need

Raw rice - 2 cups

Jaggery – 1 cup

Water – 1 ladle

Ghee – 1 tbsp

Cardamom powder – 1/2 tbsp

Cashew, for garnishing – a few

Cooking instructions

Soak the raw rice in water for an hour.

Wash well, drain and dry completely by spreading on a cloth.

Roast the dried rice in a kadai till it turns pink. Allow to cool.

Adding little water at a time to the flour, make a mixture.

Spread the mixture in a shallow vessel and steam in an idly cooker or pressure cooker (for three whistles).

Make a thick syrup (stringy consistency) with water and jaggery. Add cardamom powder and mix the syrup with the flour adding little by little.

Fry the cashewnuts in ghee and garnish.
