Breaking the strong hegemony of rock in the city, On the Offshore, an electro acoustic duo put up a scintillating concert of Alternative Electronica at B-Flat recently.
The German/UK pair offered a never-before experience of musical ingenuity along with local guest artistes at the Pigflower-organised concert.
On the Offshore comprises Lucy Pereira on vocals and keyboard and Girisha Fernando on the guitar. They say their music is the coming together of two worlds.
“We created a whole new world of innovation with my background of classical music and Girisha's jazz environment. It's a combination of peppy song-writing steeped in tradition and contemporary elements of jazz and electronica,” says Lucy.
The mélange of sounds that they created could best be described as a session of midnight dance pop and afternoon jazz in original Electronica.
The night opened with ‘Yogensha', a live music and video project recreating the sights and sounds of Bangalore in transition. Following through in their experimental melodramatic pop, Sulk Station took over with its downtempo, trip-hop act.
With Electronica tones ebbing from the laptop, On the Offshore began with ‘Illegal'. Skilfully working on the guitar, Girisha's arousing tones of ‘Views Invisible' had the audience swaying to the beat. Lucy's poignant ‘A Holiday' and a jazz inspired ‘Paper Lilies' came next. Wrapping it up with a riveting ‘Going Nowhere', the twosome notched up the energy level. Laptop artiste and DJ Nikhil rendered a perfect finish to a night of uncommon music.
