High drama was witnessed outside the residence of former Minister Maganti Venkateswara Rao (Babu) of the Telugu Desam Party here on Friday in the wake of the implication of his son, Ramji, in a case of sexual harassment.
Cyberabad police in Hyderabad registered a case against Ramji under the Sections 506 (punishment for intimidation), 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) and Section 66 (A) of the Information Technology Act (punishment for sending offensive messages by way of electronic mails) following a complaint from a close relative of Mr. Maganti Babu.
After verification the case against Maganti Ramji was quashed.
A team of sleuths from the capital led by Sub-Inspector Raghavendar Reddy reached Mr. Babu’s residence to arrest the accused following information that he arrived from Hyderabad for mobilisation of cadres for the rally of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu scheduled in Visakhapatnam.
The sleuths made an unsuccessful attempt to gain entry into the residence with the help of the local police in pursuit of the accused in view of resistance from family members and the advocates of Mr. Babu.
False claims
Even as the police got information that the accused was very much inside the house, family members strongly denied the police version, saying he had left for Kaikaluru in the neighbouring Krishna district on a party assignment.
The police stayed put outside the residence right from morning to evening in the hope of tracking him.
But they found no signs of him in the house till late in the evening.
According to information, the accused gave the police the slip and exited through the back door.
Mr. Babu, however, was away in Visakhapatnam, taking part in the wrap-up function of Mr. Chandrababu Naidu’s “Vastunna Meekosam” padayatra programme.
