The article “Defending dissent and democracy” (Jan.14) is a fitting tribute to K.G. Kannabiran. He is among the few celebrated lawyers who dedicated their legal profession to defend and protect the rights of the marginalised and the voiceless. His exemplary role as a president of the PUCL will continue to be a great source of inspiration.

Sivasailam, who was not only a leading industrialist but also a philanthropist of the highest order. The Sri ParamaKalyani group of institutions, in his birth place, are examples of his deep concern, noble heart and love for the sons and daughters of his own soil. A spiritualist to the core, his contribution towards the renovation and consecration of the Siva Sailanathar-ParamaKalyani temple, Sivasailam, is memorable. He was a humble and pious soul.
