Usain Bolt, considered the fastest person ever, is eyeing a three-peat – gold winning performances in 100m, 200m and 4x100m – to top his success at Beijing and London.

Dipa Karmakar is the first Indian female gymnast to secure an Olympic berth. She is one of only five women to have successfully landed the Produnova vault in competition.

Vinicius, a mixture of all the Brazilian animals, is the mascot of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad.

Rio 2016 runs through 17 days from August 5 to August 21 across 32 venues in Rio de Janeiro, and five football co-host cities: Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Manaus, Salvador and Sao Paulo.

2,102 medals – gold, silver and bronze – will be awarded to athletes competing for 306 sets of medals.

Rio de Janeiro is the first South American city to host the Summer Olympics, leaving Africa as the only continent yet to host the Games.

32,000 tennis balls, 8,400 shuttlecocks, 400 footballs, 250 golf carts and 54 boats are set to be used through the course of the Games.

Rugby sevens and golf are the two sports making their way into the Olympics. While golf has been added after a 114-year absence, rugby returns after 92 years. Rugby sevens, however, is making its debut.
