Film: Frozen

Production: Walt Disney Animation Studio

Direction: Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee

I recently watched the 2013 animated film Frozen , produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The cinema contained a lot of strong, realistic emotions in it. It was about a cheerful young woman called Anna who forms a strong relationship with her sister, Elsa, who was crowned queen of their village Arendelle. Elsa has shielded her powers of ice and snow for so long, but it unfortunately surfaces when she and Anna get into an argument. Since her feelings also trigger her powers, Elsa accidentally sets Arendelle in eternal winter. She runs off and Anna embarks on a journey to bring her back to thaw the freezing cold in their village.

Similarities with The Lion King

Even though the picture was extremely likable, I found that it was similar to the movie The Lion King , also produced by Disney. Anna, like Simba, learns about responsibility and sacrifices for love. In fact, Anna is childish, like Simba, and Elsa proves to share the same characteristics as Nala (Simbha’s best friend and wife), such as being practical. I also noticed that even though Anna was a princess, she wasn’t being protected by anyone, such as bodyguards. Plus in one scene where Anna is chased by wolves, their eyes glow in the dark and scientifically in real life, they don’t. Other than all of these shortcomings in logics and storytelling, the movie was quite worth your time. I especially enjoyed the twist in love and the sparks of humour, usually offered by a talking snowman called Olaf.
