PSBB student sets karate record

CHENNAI: Shyamal Sriniketh, a class II student of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB), KK Nagar earned the distinction of becoming the youngest Black Belt winner in Isshin-Ryu Karate. He achieved this in one year and three months, and trained with Renshi Saravana, of Seishinkai Isshin-Ryu Karate and Kobudu Association.

School felicitates academic achievers

POLLACHI: An award day function was organised by Shri Krishna Vidhyalaya MHSS, Divansapudur. Dr.B.K.Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, Bharathiya Vidhya Bhavan Coimbatore Kendra was the chief guest. The function was organised to felicitate achievers in the school. A.Karthikkiran who stood first in Pollachi educational district by scoring 495/500 in 10 public examination in 2013, Scouts who got Rajyapuraskar award, centum scorers, students with 100 per cent attendance and other achievers were all honoured by the Chief Guest.

The Chief Guest had words of appreciation for the rural students who he said excelled in all spheres and even outwitted their urban counterparts.

Sethu Bhaskara bags basketball trophy

CHENNAI: The Amma State Level Basketball competition was held on February 23. The team from Sethu Bhaskara Matric. Hr. Sec. School Pudur, Ambattur coached by M. Nadi Muthu won the Amma Trophy. A. Sriram , Zkiel Prancis S.; Yogesh K.; P. Vishal; Rajesh; Shyam Sundar; and Thirunavukkarasan of class IX and S. Arunachalam; R. Vigneshwar; D. Gogulakrishnan; R. Pushparaj and A. Deepak of class VIII were the members of the team under the captaincy of T.R.Manoj Kumar of class X.

Western Ghats School spreads its ‘Wings’

COIMBATORE: Wings 2014, the annual day celebration of the school was organised at The Western Ghats International School campus at Ettimadai. Dr.Tessy Thomas, Project Director of Agni Missile and Distinguished Scientist of Dsefence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was the Chief Guest.

P.P.Pauly, the Commandant of 105 Battalion of Rapid Action Force (RAF) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Coimbatore was the Guest of Honour.

The Chief Guest inaugurated the Aero Club of the school. She presented prizes to winners of events like Eureka 2014, and Wowlympics.

The milestones of the academic year were highlighted by Principal Dennis A. Chen. A cultural programme with performances like Kathak, Goan folk, Marathi folk, and other dance forms was put up.

Zee School celebrates Science Day

COIMBATORE: The Ideal Mount Litera Zee School, Kalapatti celebrated National Science Day along with TamilNadu Science Forum and Coimbatore Astronomy Club.

Interschool Competitions in Quiz, Drawing and Debate on science topics, Science Magic by Dr.Sedhuraman from Tamilnadu Science Forum, SKY WATCH by Coimbatore Astronomy Club were held.

Dr. Nellai Su Muthu, ISRO Scientist was the Chief Guest. He interacted with the Parents and Students in the ‘Meet The Scientist’ programme. The winners were honoured with certificates and prizes during the valedictory function.

Science Day at Vaels School

CHENNAI: ‘Science Day’ was celebrated at Vaels International School, Injambakkam on February 28. The function was inaugurated by Dr. Balakrishnan - Chairman NBA. The other guests for the function were Prof. P. Dayanandan, former head (Department of Biology - Madras Christian College) & Dr. Jeyashree Vencatesan, Care Earth Foundation. They gave presentations on ‘Knowing life around you’. Prakash Vaithyanathan delivered lecture on the topic of ‘Extinct birds’. The speeches were followed by an inter- school quiz which was conducted by Dr. John William. Vaels International School won the first prize.

Jayendra Saraswathy Vidyalaya holds science expo

COIMBATORE: A science exhibition named ‘A glimpse into 2013-14’ was organised by Sri Jayendra Saraswathy Vidyalaya CBSE. It was inaugurated by Devika Anand, Director of Jayem Automotives and J.A Motorsport. Along with art and craft, students created models with science and math concepts. A few projects like Pamban Bridge, hydro electricity, and vermi compost were shown live. A panel discussion with experts and teachers also took place. This was followed by a cultural programme showcasing the students’ talents
