Painting exhibition held at Vidya Mandir
First in a string of events as part of its Diamond Jubilee celebrations
Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School on April 17 kick started its Diamond Jubilee celebrations with an Art Exhibition. Inaugurated by Sharad Haksar, award winning advertising photographer, the exhibition consisted of 60 paintings by students of the school to signify the 60 glorious years of the institution. Keshav Venkataraghavan, artist and cartoonist, was the guest of honour at the exhibition.
The 60 paintings were selected from among the works of 600 students of the school. The painting exhibition brought to the fore the creative skills of the students and captured the imagination of the young and the old alike.
Haksar appreciated the students for coming up with a variety of expressions in their paintings. This exhibition signified the start of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of this prestigious institution and there will be a string of other events that will be held through this year.
Speaking on the occasion Shoba Raman, Principal of the school said, “We plan to celebrate the completion of 60 years of our school by dedicating each month of this academic year for an important co-curricular activity.”
“This month we celebrate art, with an exhibition of art-work done by 60 budding artists of VM, inaugurated very aptly by Mr. Sharad Haksar, our illustrious alumnus.”
Annual Day celebration at Saraswathi Vidyalaya
Saraswathi Vidyalaya, Vadapalani celebrated its 59th Annual Day in a grand manner on March 20, 2015. Dr. Rekha Sudharshan, a psychologist and child birth educator, herself a fitness enthusiast and the guest of honour, gave valid reminders on the importance of physical fitness and the need to have time away from gadgets in order to spend quality time with family.
Sudarshan Ranganathan stressed on the need to develop scholastic and non-scholastic skills among children and also spoke on the increasing plethora of choices available as career options today. The cultural programme which followed reflected the abilities of the children – a biopic on Hanuman which showed how he conquered the Pancha boothas – the little ones turned up as flowers, butterflies, clouds, rain and birds while the older ones sang some soulful songs.
The Tamil skit was a satire on the technology driven lives of people today. The show ended with a Spanish Flamenco dance with tap dancing in swirling skirts.
National Model School celebrates Earth day
National Model Senior Secondary School, Peelamedu, Coimbatore celebrated the world Earth Day in an elegant way, this April 22nd. Students Council Members collected reusable bags like paper, jute and cloth bags brought from home.
The bags were handed over to the near-by shops stressing the value of re-using among the shop-keepers .The air conditioners in the school campus were kept off throughout the day.
Adding strength to the concept, the entire teaching fraternity reported in green outfits emphasising on the need to build a greener world. The pledge taken by the students, ‘I Will Lead From The Front’ kept echoing in Annanagar, even as the sun went down.
