Bonjour Bonheur's Ocean Spray

Puducherry

USP: Water, water everywhere

Heritage and H2O — two things you just cannot avoid when Puducherry is your chosen getaway. The streets of the dreamy town will quench your thirst for history, and there is Bonjour Bonheur's Ocean Spray that takes the promise of water very seriously.

You may think that it is just another resort on the ECR that promises a sea-facing room, a private beach and beach volley-ball. But, when you get past the lobby, you understand how seriously they take their water. There is the sea, of course, but that comes much later. Before that, the resort has a manmade lake that runs through the blocks, villas and the restaurants spread across five acres.

If you want to stand firmly on ground, and not have an embarrassing Eureka moment, cosy up in their range of rooms that face the sea, the lake and the infinity pool. They have standard rooms, suites equipped with Jacuzzis, water-front villas, and the ultimate suite that has a private pool and live barbeque station.

The independent villas, all surrounded by the lake, have a private pier. They are understated from the outside, while the interiors are opulent and dramatic. Adorned in silks, with elaborate woodwork and lanterns in overpowering designs, they are all about being larger than life. Done thoughtfully, nevertheless, they score with their detailing — such as anti-skid tiles in the bathrooms and a fully automated room where everything from the lights to the room temperature and the screens can be controlled with one remote. They also have a touchpad with buttons to call for services.

They have a floating restaurant, Lotosas, with transparent flooring at the entrance. You can see the water gush past under your feet before you bite into some tandoori fare. The resort also has a 24-hour coffee-shop, Amber; a bar-cum-discotheque, Ska, and a wet bar by the poolside, Bisous Bar.
