This week’s collection of apps is motley; yet each of the apps is brilliant in its own right. And yes, if developers keep coming up with more such app-y goodness, all of us are going to need new phones with much bigger memories.

Ask Me Anything

The Reddit favourite now has its own app. It lets you stay up-to-date with all the latest AMAs (Ask Me Anything), send in your questions directly from the app during an active AMA, vote questions/answers up or down, and get notifications as to what AMA is trending. Here’s your chance to ask your favourite celeb anything. But hey, don’t troll the poor guy/girl.

BeyondPod Podcast Manager

After Serial , there have been a whole bunch of podcast-converts. While podcasts, of course, are to be streamed online, using this app you can download your favourites and listen to them later – offline. You can also cast the audio/video to a big screen using Chromecast and use the skip and replay options.

The app will automatically create Smart Playlists based on your preferences and connect with Feedly to let you access old podcasts if you miss out on them on the publisher’s feed. BeyondPod also automatically deletes old podcasts without you having to take the trouble.

Alibi

You love your crime dramas, don’t you? Even if you didn’t, it’s always a great idea to keep this app handy in case of altercations/riots/harassment/accidents and so forth.

Once activated, the app will constantly record audio/video and location, thus helping you back up your version of an event with irrefutable evidence. It captures an hour of footage at a time, which you can save and retrieve later. The data is compressed and hidden and while running in the background, it does not deplete too much of your battery – but recording video might.

GO Locker

A brilliant collection of lock screens, the app has thousands of themes that you can download and use for free or for some token amount (there are expensive ones too – its up to your discretion; if you think they’re worth it and money’s burning a little hole in your pocket, go for it). While users of Lollipop may just turn up their noses at any other kind of lock screen, let me assure, the ones available in GO Locker are stable, secure and pretty darn good, not to mention just pretty.
