Nothing like a well coordinated dance show with catchy music to escape the rigours of a sultry summer evening. With various summer workshops being conducted across the city, it was time for the students of Steps Dance Studio to showcase their fruits of labour. After a 15-day summer workshop, over 200 amateur dancers of various age groups danced to contemporary dance forms amidst cheering and enthusiastic family members at Ravindra Bharathi.
The show began with an energetic dance performance to Usher's upbeat Oh my gosh , which had a mix street dance style, funk and hip-hop with some unmistakable Bollywood moves. It was almost like a scene from the movie Richard Gere starring movie Shall We Dance when a group of corporate professionals smoothly executed the complex moves of salsa overcoming their stage fear and inhibitions. However, no dance show is complete in Hyderabad without hip-hop and Sean Paul. The dance moves had a quintessential desi flavour and the confidence of the dancers on stage was commendable.
But it was the children who stole the show. Tiny tots dressed in bright orange floral dress unabashedly dancing to Miley Cyrus or rather Hannah Montana's Pumping up the Party were endearing to watch. Their energy was contagious and the toddlers helping each other with their dance steps added to the amusement. Carefree dance and bright smiles on their face, the children added a cute dimension to Jennifer Lopez's club song Let's get Loud .
Children looking out for their parents while dancing and breaking out in bright smiles after spotting them among the audience added to the fun. The performances had a mix of all contemporary dance forms in their basic styles. Though all amateur dancers, their confidence and stage presence was worth watching.
