A complaint has been lodged against a restaurant near Tambaram that had reportedly employed minor children. The complaint was given by a staff member of the Revenue Department, after he and his colleagues noticed three minor children cleaning the tables at the restaurant in Medavakkam near Tambaram, on Tuesday.
Pallikaranai police sources said S. Govindarajan, Tahsildar, Sholinganallur, Muthuswamy, Deputy Tahsildar and Jagannathan, Village Administrative Officer, Medavakkam, on their way to Tambaram, stopped by at a popular vegetarian restaurant on Velachery Main Road.
Noticing the young boys cleaning the tables, they informed the staff that they were guilty of gross violation as the children were of school-going age. The staff reportedly claimed they had the birth certificates and other documents to prove that the three young employees were adults.
Mr. Jagannathan then informed the Pallikaranai police station, where a complaint was lodged subsequently. Meanwhile, sensing trouble, the restaurant management managed to send the children elsewhere. Policemen were unable to trace the children, but have questioned the restaurant staff and management, sources said.
