Launch Of the music album ‘The Story of Silk'

In a cozy setting at the SilkWorm boutique on Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Nungambakkam, a crowd of around 60 gathered on Sunday to listen to pianist Anil Srinivasan and vocalist Sikkil C. Gurucharan perform ‘The Story of Silk' through a series of melodies created by classical composers from around the world. ‘The Story of Silk' is a new album inspired by Silk Mythology from ancient India and other parts of the world. The show is the second to be performed at the boutique, the previous one was held in February this year.

The music played comprised an assortment from classical French composers to south Indian classical music.

The theme of the evening was children and, in keeping with it, the melodies chosen were innocent and child-like. A highlight was Anil Srinivasan's lively performance on the piano of Robert Schumann's “Dreaming”, a haunting melody that is often heard in several jingles these days.

The performance was light and vivacious, and the audience listened enthralled. Halfway through the event Anil called on Sikkil Gurucharan who joined him on vocals and together they sang a Carnatic composition.

The proceeds from the CD sales are earmarked for NalandaWay, an NGO started by Sriram V. Ayer that seeks to help underprivileged children with education and life skills.

He explained that the proceeds would go towards a project called “Exercise book” that helps educate children.

The evening ended with the launch of the music album ‘The Story of Silk' and Srinivasan autographing CDs for the audience.
