It's Chennai's tryst with the international fashion world. Designer Sidney Sladen who has done the styling for several models and Kollywood A-listers participated in the Rosemount Australia Fashion Week 2011, from May 2 to May 6.

The designer who presented a new line quirkily named, “Between a rock and a soft place”, fuses strong forms and wispy fabrics to conjure up a collection that's absolutely feminine.

“The line is about attitude and wearability,” says the designer, who has fused several elements in each piece. “In reality, we come across so many contradictions. This line blends opposites. There are soft pleats, geometric patterns, fluid forms and a touch of whimsicality. I've used sheer fabrics such as georgettes and chiffons. Satins and crepes too for a dash of richness. The palette moves from solid to girly tones. Zardozi, crystal, glass beads, gypsy pearls and sequins are used with restraint. It's inspired by how life hands out different roles to different people and how people play out their roles.”

The Rosemount Australian Fashion Week took place against the spectacular backdrop of Circular Quay. A premier fashion event, it invited designers to participate under a slew of categories. The five-day official schedule included on-site collection shows held within state-of-the-art collection showrooms, off-site collection shows, The Gallery and The Presentation Suites at The Westin Sydney. Sidney participated in the Presentation Suites slot.
