Father and son

Playback singer Mano has 22,000 songs, including 8,000 in Tamil alone, in 14 Indian languages to his credit. He has also acted in a few films such as “Singaravelan”. Now, his son has found his calling in acting. Shakir was part of director Selva's “Naanga”. Says Mano: “I was happy when my son said he wanted to act in films. He was learning the nuances of acting, dance and stunts, when he was approached for ‘Naanga'. He played a negative role in the film, but his performance has come in for much praise. I liked it too. In fact, director Selva has promised to rope him in for his next project too.” Interestingly, Mano himself has two Tamil films in hand now.

His first love

Actor Suresh, a chocolate hero of the 1980s, seems to have happily embraced the small screen now. He hosts “Jeika Povathu Yaru” on Jaya TV and “Aha Enna Porutham” on Zee Thamizh. “My first love is acting, be it for films or television. I want to be in front of the camera. In fact, I'm producing television programmes, and acting in them. And, I prefer shows to serials. Of course, I'm also doing four Telugu films and a couple of Tamil films. I keep shuttling between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh,” says the actor.

A different angle

“Yes, it does have love, but I've given it a different approach,” says director A. Krishna about his upcoming film “Meeravudan Krishna”.

The director, who also plays the lead in the film, says: “Normally, films focus on love between the young. This film showcases a married couple and how the two get to know each other.”

Produced by M.R.A. Vijay, the cast includes Swetha, Radha, Manobala, Anandi and Ganesh. The music is scored by K.K. Senthil Prasad.
