She has beautiful eyes but it’s her lovely curls ‘(she calls them ‘wild’) that captures your attention first. The Malayalam actor from Aluva in Kerala makes her debut in Telugu films with an important role as a wildlife photographer in Nandini Reddy’s Kalyana Vaibhogame due for release next month. Pearle Maaney isn’t just talented, she is also a multifaceted personalitya VJ, television anchor, biker, dancer, actor and a motivational speaker all rolled into one. Ask her how she manages to juggle all of that and she quips, “If you have a boyfriend, don’t you make time for him despite exams and other things? Same here.”
Pearle admits that acting is not her first love, she has inherited a passion for motivational speaking from her father and she executes her work with aplomb. She also loves biking, in fact she played a biker girl in her debut film Neelakshanam Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi .
Her body of work is small but she has done meaningful roles. “I did not want to do biker roles anymore and followed my debut film with director Ranjit’s Njaan starring Dulquer Salman where I play a gypsy. I did Double Barrel and immediately got Nandini Reddy’s film,” she says.
Pearle says anchoring is where her heart belongs. “In movies you have to prepare, but in anchoring, you just have to be yourself,” she says.
How does she sustain her enthusiasm to break into impromptu talk and marathon chat on television on even mundane days? Pearle cites a small experience. “I was not well one day so I took a strong dosage of medicine; that made me feel better and at ease and I did the show. Once you get on stage and face the audience and the camera is on, there is a different energy altogether. In the midst of a shoot, I like reading books. I am reading 50 Shades of Grey at the moment. If you make books your companion, life is great. I do have friends in Cochin and there are lot of wonderful actors who are fun to hang out with. It is nice to have friends within the industry and when there is a confusion, I ask for the opinion of people in the industry, I like consulting and they like guiding too,” she says.
What are the perks of being an actor? She gives a candid reply, “I don’t feel any difference except for the fact that people recognise you. I am still waiting for the breakthrough where I feel like, ‘Oh I am an actor.’
