Riff is a free app from the house of Facebook that enables you to create videos with the inputs of multiple people. This app does look very simple and sensible.
To start using the app, you will have to log in with your Facebook account. That’s all the setup this app needs. Once you sign in, you will be directed straight into the app and you can start posting videos right then and there. Your success depends heavily on the camera feature of your handset.
You will be able to see Riffs from your friends at the top of the screen which is followed by featured Riffs. Each Riff has big blue material design – style buttons that invite users to contribute their own clips. It has a pretty neat interface that has all the necessary tools within easy reach. It also shows your Riff’s stats, like the number of clips in a Riff. It, however, does not have the feature to pause or mute the videos.
Riff is quite different from Vine and Instagram in that a Riff is not done when it is posted. A Riff is, in fact, an ongoing conversation between the person who started the video and all of his/her friends on Facebook. After a Riff is posted, it will be visible to the user’s Riff – using Facebook friends in the app and they will be able to add their own videos to the Riff. If those at Riff think your video is exciting enough to be Featured, all Riff users will be able to see it. This app is not touted as a private service, and a warning clearly informs you of the same when you start shooting for the first time.
This app uses your friends list on Facebook as a trusted network and does not let strangers add videos to your Riff.
It has a reporting tool that looks like a policeman’s whistle that can be used on any video clip that you think is offensive.
Riff is an innovative app and worth a shot!
