Love in the air

“Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya” comes as a whiff of fresh air after a string of stale serials

Moving beyond mediocrity and dull fare dished out on television in the form of game shows and serials portraying negative traits of humankind, an alternative show Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya promises to restore faith in emotions. An innocent love story of a boy and girl too young to understand the true meaning of love, it begins on Zee TV on January 6, 2014, at 10 p.m., and will air from Monday to Friday.

It stars Kaanchi Singh and Mishkat Verma in the lead roles and many newcomers in important roles. When queried if newcomers were taken to cut costs, director-producer Rajan Shahi replied: “I have worked with a lot of newcomers, I like to work with them. Making a show with newcomers is five times more expensive than doing it with expensive television actors. We had to do a lot of retakes. It also takes a lot of energy and needs patience.”

Shahi, however agrees that not all newcomers handle their success with dignity and refers to the saying, “too much too soon”. “There are some newcomers who have done just a show or two and the little success goes to their head. They think that the industry exists because of them; they throw a lot of tantrums. There are some examples of newcomers whom I have earlier launched but now I do not wish to work with them. At the same time, the seniormost actors like Rajeev Verma and Reena Kapoor who are also playing important characters in the show are very easy to deal with, they are very well disciplined. They are the true professionals. The newcomers are also good to work with as they know that they are zero. They are very enthusiastic.”

Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya centres around the theme that you do not find love, love finds you. This love story is not similar to Romeo-Juliet or about a rich boy and a poor girl. It is about the process of falling in love for the first time. Here is a young boy and a young girl coming from the same family background. Kaanchi Singh’s character Avni lives, eats and breathes romantic books and romantic movies in order to find out how love happens.

The lead male character Mishkat Verma, Shahi says was already in his mind from the time the idea for the serial germinated. “I had met him some eight or nine months back and told him that he’ll you will be playing the lead character of my next show. I had no script with me at that time. I just wanted to make a young love story.” The subject of the serial is an innocent love story and meant for viewing by the whole family.
