Cho's serial that captivated viewers is back on Jaya TV.

‘Engae Brahmanan' is back on Jaya TV. To make the drawing room audience sit up, at 8 p.m. (Monday-Friday). Cho and his inquisitive producer friend return to take the story forward. The first part ended with young Ashok, in search of the ideal Brahmin, is led away by a figure in a temple, leaving the interpretation to the viewer's imagination.

Now, Ashok's distraught parents (Delhi Kumar and Nalini) demand the return of their offspring. Soon other characters turn up at the author's office, seeking explanations and the writer throws up his hands in mock despair.

Open Part Two… with Ashok continuing the search, but within himself.

Exploring possibilities

‘Engae Brahmanan' stood out with its well-etched characters, neat screenplay and excellent performances from the artists. More than anything else, it was not a mega soap that stretched endlessly. The no-nonsense treatment came as a fresh breeze. So how did the sequel come about?

“The channel requested and well-meaning friends actually demanded,” responded Cho, on phone.

Did he think Part 1 ended on an abrupt note? “Not really. At the same time, there is scope to explore possibilities, expand and so on.”

First editions may be runaway hits but sequels can be damp squibs. “Of course I have thought of that. And the responsibility therefore is tremendous, to deliver something better,” said Cho. “We are ready with a story, a framework and the episodes will move smoothly. Director Venkat will take care of everything,” he added.

“‘The Music Season is in full swing and your serial will not get the due attention,' cautioned an affectionate friend, but I feel it is the right time to begin. I have faith in the viewers,” said Cho.

Director Venkat is full of enthusiasm. “The book and the serial are open-ended, lending themselves to expansion. Cho's logical mind has already charted a course. The rest is easy.”

Are all the characters returning? “Yes. There is potential to develop and flesh them out. And there are new ones too.”

So the narration proceeds seamlessly, with the cast continuing from where they left off.
