The lighting of the lamps for Deepavali

Deepavali is celebrated across the country by Hindus and Sikhs alike. Primarily considered the victory of Good over Evil, or Light over Darkness, the entire nation is lit up with firecrackers, earthen lamps and candles.

Discovery Channel’s “Diwali Special” on Discover India, October 17, 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., takes viewers inside the ancient city of Varanasi to reveal how it has kept some of the incredible traditions alive.
