Recently, at a busy junction, I saw a cyclist struggling to keep his balance as he manoeuvred his way past the speeding motorcycles, autorickshaws and other vehicles zooming by. I felt sorry for him. The number of automobiles on the road has increased so much that it discourages the cyclists. The number of people riding a bicycle has reduced considerably. The streets have become nightmarish for bicycle riders, forcing them to switch over to alternative means of transport. I also faced such risks while riding a bicycle during my school days. Cycling is a healthy option and we can also save on fuel. Some of the proposed plans for safe cycling in the city need to be implemented properly. It will be a great encouragement for cyclists.
