Four years of under-graduation have whizzed by and all that remains are the lovely memories of college. Fresh graduates go through the most crucial period- the decision making phase of their life. Few go for higher studies, few get married and most of the engineering students take up IT jobs.

Coming to choosing the job, there are a lot of criteria such as pay, nature of work, location etc, according to which we shortlist the companies that we want to apply. All of us would have dreamt of the kind of job we would take up after graduation, and invariably most of us end up choosing IT jobs. There are very few who work in their core field and I am one of them, having taken health care.

A new phase

The transition from a college student to a professional brings a different dimension to life. Life as a college student was very relaxing, care-free, enjoyable and tension-free. The there weeks of work has brought about a lot of changes in me. One can get the feel of what people call being “Professional”—being more responsible, adhering to deadlines, being punctual, opening up to new ideas, being more productive, etc.

The best part about being an employee is that one can be on one's own, no strings attached! There is a new sense of freedom especially when everything from job, living on your own, and learning experiences are for the first time.

In the new work environment, it is about making new friends, learning new things, visiting new places, getting used to the work, and much more. The excitement of the first job knows no bounds and the joy of receiving our first salary is beyond words; we now understand that the money we get has the worth of all the productive work we do for the entire month.

This phase of life is the most crucial period which will design our career, future and mould our character. The first job is an experience of a lifetime and one to cherish forever.
