Simon Glowinsky said, “What men can do, Robots can ‘super' do.” Proving just that was Robolympix'10 that was held at SRM University, Kattankulathur last week with all robotic zest and vigour. Robotics has always been an area of fascination and innovation for students of all disciplines. Organised by the Robotics Club of SRM University, Robolympix'10 encompassed a union of robotics and innovation.

The inaugural function of Robolympix'10 had K Ramesh, Additional Director, CAIR, DRDO (Bangalore) as the chief guest. He enlightened the students on robotics in a more practical and application-oriented dimension. “Human life is a God-created robot and the God-created robot is superior to the human-created robot. But the artificial intelligence is the need of the hour,” he said.
The second edition of Robolympix promised to be much bigger and better than its previous version. This time it broadened its horizon to autonomous robotic events too. There were 12 events compared to the nine previously. And these events were split up into four pools comprising three events each. This time there were also three track and field events.
The workforce for Robolympix'10 was 1500-strong and their hard work bore fruit when there was a turnout of more than 800 participants, thereby setting a record. Worth mentioning is the fact that one of the events got a grand response of more than 150 teams. Red Devils team, from the host college won the shield for the Best Team in Robolympix'10. They bagged three gold and one bronze.
The success of Robolympix was in taking Robotics to an entirely different level with more emphasis on wireless applications.
