The festive season is all about glamour and style. Reema Sablok, a professional make-up artist from Mumbai, has worked with Bollywood's most beautiful faces including Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Tabu, Lara Dutta and Neha Dhupia. Asin's fresh and dewy look in recent blockbuster ‘Ready' can be credited to her. With a few tips from her you can sizzle just like Bollywood stars this season.

Smoke it up

The first look Reema suggests for Deepavali is ‘coloured smokey look'. “Do away with the black smokey eyes this year! Instead go for coloured smokey eyes with either a deep maroon or deep blue. This is always very glamorous and suits all types of eyes.” Coloured smokey eyes instantly focus attention on your eyes and make you look stylish in any outfit.

A word of caution: Make sure the rest of your make up is light.

Ditch the kohl

Another of Reema's suggestions is the ‘no kajal' or ‘geisha' look. “Start by applying pearl white eye shadow. Next, you apply liner, which is winged out. Make sure the liner gets thicker as you pull it outward. Use a lot of mascara or use fake lashes if you can. A pink or red lipstick should complete the look. Interestingly when you contrast this style with Indian ethnic and traditional outfits, the overall look is very international!”

Pick it right

Reena also emphasises the use of the right products and brushes and the importance of staying updated with ew products in the market. A crucial part in getting any look right is to use the right foundation. “To do that, first identify your skin tone. All of us have either red or yellow skin tones and in India, 90 per cent are yellow.”

A dry run

Reema also suggests that you try a look and perfect it before the actual day. Sometimes it takes you a couple of trys before you get it right. This way, you will also get a fair idea of how the look suits you.

As a rule, when doing your make-up, focus either on your eyes or lips. If you're going in for elaborate eye make-up, opt for a neutral/light shade of lipstick and gloss. On the other hand, if you're using a very vibrant shade of lipstick, skip the heavy layers of eye shadow. “Finally, to complete the entire festive look either blow dry or perm your hair.”

Don't...

Wear the wrong foundation.

Wear heavy foundation.

Go heavy on both the eyes and lips. Focus on any one.

Use shimmer if you have oily skin.

Go for red lipstick unless you know it suits you.
