Traditions are fun!

If we look at the traditional practices closely, we will realise that tradition itself is the fun element.

For instance, no matter how old you are, isn’t bursting crackers with friends and cousins the best tradition ever?

Also, in our ever-so-busy lives, these occasions serve the purpose of bringing the family together again. Tradition is fun, if I can say so.

Take a break

Gone are the days when Diwali was an occasion to spread joy and happiness and celebrate the festival of lights in the true sense of the word. To the working class, especially, it is merely an excuse to take a break from their hectic schedules and connect with friends again.

Family time

We meet friends every other day. Diwali is supposed to be special. Waking up before sunrise, helping my mother prepare scrumptious sweets in the kitchen and participating in the pooja fills me with a sense of contentment. Also, it’s also an occasion to visit your grandparents and receive their love, blessings and a lot of presents.

A good mix

Diwali is a blend of tradition and fun. Beginning the day with an oil bath and ending it with fire crackers with a bunch of friends would be ideal. One without the other will make it seem incomplete.

Hit the screens

Diwali, for me, is all about fun, fun and more fun. I wake up leisurely to the tempting aroma of ghee-saturated sweets, catch up with friends for a round of crackers and flaunt my new set of clothes. In the evenings, a family get-together is arranged where we share old memories and the latest gossip. The latest trend of big banner films being released on Diwali is the cherry on the cake. I’m looking forward to the festival of lights this year.

Break the routine

For me, Diwali is an opportunity to take a break from my daily routine and have fun with friends and family. I feel over the years our lifestyle has changed and so has the way we celebrate festivals. Tradition is a thing of the past, now.

Active participation

Diwali is one of those festivals where fun and tradition go hand in hand. Of course, having fun is what I look forward to. However, I’ve been brought up in a family where tradition is considered very significant. So, I’d definitely participate in the rituals and practices as well.

A bit of both

It is a difficult choice to make because following tradition and enjoying the festival are interwoven. However, I feel it’s really the age-old traditional practices that are characteristic of the festival which enhance the occasion.
