“Even if I don’t finish, we need others to continue. It’s got to keep going without me,” said Terry Fox.

The Terry Fox Run 2012 at IIT-Madras campus held last weekend saw a huge turn out with participants running to support cancer patients. The rainy weather set the perfect setting for a six-km run around the campus. Participants of all ages could either run, walk, cycle or skate. My two friends and I set out on our first successful run. Though we stopped thrice during the course of the run, we still made it. Six kms in one hour was an extraordinary feat for us.

Around me, I saw runners with tremendous energy, spirit, drive, morale, courage, desire and support; it portrayed the phenomenal effort by each individual. On completing the run, with my coolers off and drenched in sweat, my thoughts drifted to the person who while sharing his experience after the run said “We are all leaders because we have inspired each other to run and to do more.” I truly believe that I’ve run for a great cause and that made me feel more special.

The event ended with the national anthem. Then, I collected my certificate, and left the place on a positive note to run everyday, feel good and stay in the pink of health.
