Food to me is the true omnipresent God. As I guided the steering-wheel of my car to veer right into VM Street (Off RK Salai, opposite to HSBC Bank) for my luncheon at the new restaurant – Nivedhanam Vegetarian International (Multi-cuisine), my stomach was gurgling; hurried-up gastronomic chants with close-to-religious fervour.
Nivedhanam arrived. Two beautiful sari -clad ladies and the instrumental version of ‘Germaniyin senthaen malare' gave me a very Tamizh welcome to what later became a pleasurable international experience.
I settled into a peaceful corner and almost immediately the fusillade of epicurean delights began.
Hearty experience
The Manchow Soup from China was served first and its pristine tanginess set my appetite-meter ringing all bodily registers.
With increased gusto, I glutted myself with Baby Corn Pepper Salt, Finger Paneer, and American cheese balls; the Baby Corn Pep-Salt was superb, and the American cheese balls, laden with a saintly cheese stuffing, were a tad overtly amorous. Veg au-gratin then arrived gracefully on the scene and said, “ Basta! ” to my baby-faced skirmishing, and set herself on my table solicitously, with great poise, like a true ragazza italiana bella . This humbling deal left me tongue-tied, and quite lost, like the tired paparazzi, only to be rescued into activity by two cheerful-looking phulkas (very soft!) and bhindi masala (slightly oily!).
A little affair then followed, with a rather pompous portion of some arumaiyaana Bisibela-bhath . This brought the main course to a ravishing end and immediately, a cute cup of Jevvarisi Payasam took me on a wonderful joy-ride through Vaikuntam and dropped me off, I think, under a very coquettish lychee-tree, for, I was then served, the succulent-best of freshest lychee fruits.
My frenzied spirit was then rightfully dispersed by a complimentary cup of hot Japanese tea that warmed my guts and calmed my cellular hyperactivity by shooing away the minute post-meal jingling that had gossiped its way into my intestinal cavity. Grand, was the meal; great, was the deal!
The highest priced item on Nivedhanam's menu is ‘Global Meal', at Rs. 250; Tandoori items are priced up to Rs. 120, salads and soups are in the range of Rs.50-75, and Continental and Chinese are priced Rs. 100 and upwards.
Nivedhanam also offers Ice-creams, fruit salads, sizzling brownies (with ice-cream), fruit trifle, and American banana split for dessert. On the whole – both, to the incurable gourmet-heads like me, and the happy Indian family-folk, Nivedhanam would be a very satisfying trip.
