The Paris Vendetta is Steve Berry's eighth book and is about an ex-agent Cotton Malone and his best friend, Henrik Thorvaldsen, who is on a quest to avenge his son's death.

Treasure hunt

The story starts with French Emperor Napoleon who manages to stash away a treasure of untold value. He dies without telling anyone where it was hidden but leaves a secret trail that only his son can decipher. But the son fails to do so and after his death, the search for the treasure continues…

An American agent, Sam Collins, with two men on his heels breaks into ex-agent Cotton Malone's house on Henrik Thorvaldsen's orders. After a gun battle, Malone and Sam rush to Thorvaldsen's house and learn that the Danish billionaire has found out who his son's killers were. In the process, he also discovered a conspiracy to wreak havoc on the world's financical systems by a group called the Paris Club.

The story shifts from London and France and the 432 pages are loaded with surprises and twists. The writer uses a well-planned plot and sustains the reader's interest right till the end.

Malone is soon caught between friend and country. He has to make several choices to ensure that he manages to complete the objectives posed by each of them. With the involvement of a dangerous terrorist, who has an elaborate plan to cause chaos across France; a man who has never failed in his past plans and has managed to evade capture for decades. Malone's job gets tougher. Will he stop him before it is too late?
