It's not everyday that one would be invited to eat food that's quite different from the regular cuisine and want to try it just to satiate old curiosity... That's just what happened at The Courtyard by Marriott at Paprika where they served Sushi and Sashimi.

Sushi and Sashimi, both rated high among the Japanese delicacies, have become the most tried food in recent times. Though quite apprehensive at first, when the chef himself comes in to greet you with sushi in two plates — one vegetarian and another non-vegetarian — you can't help but be tempted to eat!

Different dip

Small rolls in different colours, some freshly cut salad and a pinch of green colour paste is placed before you. While the chef explains to you how to eat your sushi you begin to wonder what is that very small dollop of green paste doing on the plate?

That's where he interrupts your thoughts and tells you that it's Horse radish or Wasabi as it is a popular called. It is a dressing/dip that goes best with sushis and sashimis.

Take a roll, add some of the soya sauce and then slightly brush it across the wasabi...and in it goes into your mouth, opening up not just your blocks (the wasabi is known to be pungent) but also taste buds as you get to taste and savour tastes from across the globe literally! Sushis are made of Japanese sticky rice with filling — The vegetarian ones have cucumbers or mushroom while the non-vegetarian ones have fish, prawns and chicken in them. Sashimi is an assortment of raw fishes which, like the Europeans say, start cooking only after you add the sauces and the dips in your mouth!

The soup is also quite different, taste and ingredients-wise. Quite raw, it's actually very good for health because it's far from being loaded with calories. And this is also because it's white meat and therefore easy on the calorie meter.

So if you are game for experimenting and in the mood to try out some new tastes…make sure you get your hands on the Japanese festival which is on till the end of this month. And if you cannot make it then rest your worries as the Japanese menu now finds its way into the main menu at Paprika.
