Nauheed Cyrusi

Nauheed Cyrusi is one person who has dabbled with a lot in her exciting career spanning almost 13 years! From modelling and commercials since the age of 14, to VJ'ing on MTV , hosting television shows, featuring in music videos, to playing the female lead in a Bollywood film at 27, this fun-loving, enthusiastic, and extremely talented actor has done it all.

In a chat with the NXg , Nauheed talks about her role in her latest film, her stint as a model, television, her love for VJ'ing and her favourite things! Meet the real Nauheed Cyrusi…

December 18 is going to see you as the female lead in director Tanvir Ahmad's film Ada…a way of life . Tell us about that…

I play the role of a college girl who falls in love with a gangster. She tries to change his ways with her love. But more than that, the music by A.R. Rehman brings the story to life! In fact, he was the main reason why I did the film.

Your career seemed to have kick started at a very early age?

I've been modelling (read: commercials) since fourteen, starting with Dhara Refined oil, then I was offered an ad for Ayurvedic Concepts, which is now Himalaya, and that's how it all started. I did the music video ‘Piya Basanti' when I was sixteen, and that's what got me noticed in Bollywood.

What about VJ'ing?

I VJ'ed on MTV and also anchored for ZOOM . VJ'ing was the best part because I really can talk! So much, that sometimes my friends have to tell me ‘Oh Nauheed, you really need to shut up!' (laughs).

So that means you might go back to it?

I haven't considered that, but yes, I might. If I'm given a chance, I'd go back to it.

Once upon a time you wanted to become an air hostess?

My parents were from the airline background, and as a child I wanted to become an airhostess. Then there was a time when I wanted to be an MBA graduate. But I believe in destiny and I'm glad things turned out the way they have. And today, I have a phobia of flying — that's probably because of 9/11.

What is Nauheed Cyrusi like after pack up?

Oh I'm pretty normal actually. I really don't mind travelling in taxis or rickshaws when I have to. I love going for movies. I love hanging out with my friends and also partying. I can easily spend an entire day at home reading a book.

Faiza is a II year student at J.N.T.U College of Fine Arts, Hyderabad.
