Are you one of those who wish that you did not have to paint your nails every day? Or that your nails could be jazzed up just a little more? Then nail art is your answer.
With nail art revolutionising what nails could look like, it opened up a whole new box of ideas to explore.
Dates back to…
Nail art found its first takers in 300 BC. The Chinese applied enamel on their nails and left it to dry for a few hours while the Indians practised nail art using dyes from the henna plant.
The modernisation of nail design began early in the 19th century. Since then, nail art has become more creative and artistic. It can be done on real nails or acrylic ones. Nail art has been integrated into the world of fashion and is now sported as an accessory to any look.
Why nail art?
When there are beauty enhancers for every part of your body, can your nails be left out? Well groomed nails are an essential part of looking good. Your nails are also a fashion statement and can complement your wardrobe. In fact, nail art adds more beauty to the nails and attracts attention.
Who can get it done?
Absolutely anyone provided there is enough nail bed. A healthy set of nails is a bonus as this will be the canvas instead of acrylic nails. You can customise your design depending on your personality, dress or occasion.
Costs
It's possibly one of the most affordable fashion statements you can make, so go right ahead. Depending on the design and the elements used, nail art costs a minimum of Rs. 100 per nail.
The more exotic the design and materials, the higher the cost. It also depends on the intricacy of the design as this requires creativity and personal work.
Latest trends
The latest trend is customisation. Choose the design to match your dress or occasion. What's more, you can raise the bar with elements like Swarovski crystals and semi-precious stones to adorn your finger tips. You can also have the initials of a loved one designed on your nails and floor them with your gesture. With most designs coming from Singapore and China, you have stickers with stones and embossed flowers. The nail artist uses her creativity to match outfits, occasions and themes.
How long does it last?
If you take care of it, nail art will easily last for about four weeks. Once your nails regrow, visit the spa and renew the design. If gel nails are used, they last even upto three months as the designs are embedded within the gel.
Nail care
The routine is quite similar to your regular one. Avoid soaking them in water for a long period of time as it might lead to water being trapped under the nail, causing infection and nail fungus. Wear rubber gloves while washing dishes or doing other chores. Apply a top coat once in a few days to keep the shine intact. It will also protect and seal both the nail art and the fingernail itself.
