Flu is a contagious respiratory disease caused by the influenza virus. Like any other contagious disease, flu is passed easily in densely packed public places. A classroom or coaching class, which doesn't allow enough fresh air, and is filled with students, can act as breeding ground for viruses causing cold and flu. throughout the school yearInfluenza disease can also be and can easily be passed between people. Symptoms of Flu virus viral flu can appear identical to common flu and cold, but are much more dangerous. Symptoms of seasonal flu and 2009 H1N1 flu can include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body ache, headache, chills, fatigue and sometimes vomiting and diarrhoea. But in certain cases, the effected person may not have fever. Sometimes influenza may also lead to serious health problems such as pneumonia and bacterial infections, which might require hospitalisation. In case of seasonal and 2009 H1N1, the virus may pass from the affected person from one day before contracting the disease to five to seven days after. However, in certain cases this period may be longer.


Antibiotics are powerful drugs used to treat certain bacterial infections and they should be taken exactly as prescribed by the physician. However, antibiotics don't work against viruses such as cold or flu. That means you don't have to take an antibiotic every time you fall sick. If used inappropriately, they can make the bacteria resistant to treatment – thus making it difficult to get cured. The best way to prevent flu is by getting a flu vaccination every year. Flu vaccines help in developing antibodies that protects us from influenza virus infection. While there are different flu viruses, the flu vaccine protects against three main flu strains that according to research are responsible for causing most of the diseases during the flu season. The vaccine can protect you from these three viruses or it can make the illness milder if you are infected by a different flu virus.


Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw the tissue away.

Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.

Remember not to touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs often spread this way.

De-stress. Take up some outdoor activity or hobby. This helps develop a healthy immune system and also get enough fresh air.
