Movie: Anjaana Anjaani

Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra

Director Siddharth Anand has come back with his latest offering that provides a different take on the generic rom-coms. “Anjaana Anjaani” is not your typical ‘Boy Meets Girl' love story; it is unique in its own way. This is a love story between two strangers who meet under unusual circumstances and manage to find love.

Plot

NYC boy Akash (Ranbir Kapoor) and Kiara (Priyanka Chopra) are not satisfied with their lives and want to commit suicide. The strangers come across one another during one such attempt and find out that they do not have the nerve required to commit the act. So the duo plan to help each other out and become partners in death (sounds corny right?).

What ensues is a 20-day road trip that takes the couple to many scenic locales all over America. The two characters are fed up with life and do not want to live any longer but they end up enjoying each other's company.

Kiara and Akash embark on a cross-country trip with death as their destination but they find love instead.

The movie is filled with a lot of comic moments, which although predictable, still manage to gather quite a few laughs from the audience. The chemistry between Priyanka and Ranbir is fantastic and they complement each other's acting. The characters are pretty realistic.

Performances

The movie works for two major reasons. The first being the powerhouse performances by its lead pair. Having watched their careers from the very onset, I would like to state that the two actors deliver career-best performances in “Anjaana Anjaani”. The second reason why it works is due to the terrific moments in its second hour. The Vishal-Shekhar duo has done a great job with this film. The dance tracks and song sequences are a high point of the movie. And who said we have lost Lucky Ali from Bollywood. The song Hairat rendered by Lucky Ali is so good that you cannot stop listening to it.

Bottomline: If you are a romantic, or even if you are not, “Anjaana Anjaani” is a must-see for its interpretation of modern-day romance.
