Vedanta Desika, who lived in the 13th Century, is considered one of the stalwarts of Vaishnavism. His life will be chronicled in the form of a film, titled Thoopul Vedantha Desika . The film, which will be directed by Muktha Srinivasan, will star Dushyant Sridhar, a young speaker of ancient religious texts, in the lead role.
“He {Vedanta Desika} led a life that he preached and we will be showing that in the film,” says Dushyant, who is also in charge of story and dialogue, “In the last six months, I have been researching his life and other temple inscriptions. He has 120 mammoth works — some of them in ancient Tamil and Sanksrit. He also used the Manipravalam language, a mixture of the two languages, and another language called Prakrit. So, though it is a strong Tamil film, it has a judicious combination of other classical languages.”
Apart from Dushyant, the film will star Auditor Sridhar, Crazy Sunderarajan and many other new actors.
Pre-production work on the project, to be produced by Muktha Films, is currently underway. The filming will commence by the end of September or October.
