Nestled in Kavuri Hills this art gallery has been known to encourage up and coming artists while also hosting shows by well-known names from the field of art. Alankritha has come a long way since its inception and as it celebrates its twelfth anniversary the gallery has moved to a new address in Kavuri Hills.

To celebrate this new beginning the gallery is hosting a group show titled Indian Contemporary Art.

With works by over 60 artists on display the show has something for every kind of art lover.

From abstracts, semi-abstracts, mixed media paintings, sculptures, water colours, acrylics, paper collages and charcoals, the Indian Contemporary Art show has a variety of works and styles on display. From names like Thota Vaikuntam, Kandi Narsimlu, Jagannath Paul, Anand Panchal, JMS Mani, Dhiren Samal, Sadaanandan, Laxma Goud, Laxman Aeley and Sachin Jaltare several well-known artists have contributed to this show.

The works on display are as varied as the artists themselves. From Santhana Krishnan’s wood cutting work depicting a door and what lies beyond to Delhi-based Arijit Roy’s charcoal of a charging bull, the themes, styles and medium vary. Some of the works on display have been specially created for the show, while the others on display are from Alankritha’s existing stock. One such new work on display is Shankar Paramaty’s caricature titled Gaja Gamini as a tribute to M.F. Hussain, given that it is the maestro’s 100th birth anniversary. There’s also Kandi Narsimlu’s painting and sculpture depicting rural life from the state while artist couple CH Manohar and Udaya Manohar have on display a sculpture and mask created by them. Sreekanth Kurva on the other hand has created paper collages depicting the bull, while Jayaprakash presents distortion of the tiger from his signature line of works.

The show at Alankritha is on till January 21 at their new Kavuri Hills venue.
