Pocket-friendly lunch combos are all the rage these days. They offer multiple course lunches for under Rs.500; a sure-shot way to lure the city's student foodies, who are inevitably on a budget. With the summer holidays in full swing, this is the season for restaurant hopping, sampling new cuisines, writing online reviews, and of course, sharing pictures on Instagram. Priyanka Rajagopalan, who is currently interning with MetroPlus, gives us an insight into the meal deals that are most popular with the city’s younger crowd.

Around the world

Travel the world with just one trip to Spoonbill, TTK Road. Choose from Turkish, Chinese, French, Indian and Mexican main courses, and pair it with salad, fries or tortilla chips. The international lunch combos are served alongside a plate of steamy momos and fruit yogurt. Apart from this, any dish on the menu can be upgraded into a combo by adding fries and a drink. Their street-food from around the world, wifi facilities, and friendly staff, make you feel right at home.

Lunch at Bay

If you're looking for breezy ambience, colourful food, and a place to sip on beers from boot-shaped jugs , Bay146 in Savera hotel is the place to go. With soup, starter, salad, main course, drink and dessert all in one lunch combo, and options to choose between Indian, Chinese, and Continental, it gives value for money. Hot favourites include tender Paneer Tikka, succulent chicken breast in a wine sauce reduction, and the melt-in-your-mouth cheesecake.

The bistro box

Tucked away in a quiet street of Alwarpet/R.A.Puram, Ashvita Bistro is a visual delight, with charming stone benches and serene white walls. Grab some board games and have a fun afternoon with your friends, or just take a book off the shelf and indulge in quiet reading while sipping a cup of coffee. For lunch, Ashvita offers eight combos under the “Lunchbox meals” — from Thai to Indian. The most popular among them, the Asian Box, offers fried rice (Veg and non-veg), soup, sauce and ice-cream. The Momo box comes a close second, with fried or steamed momos and flavourful stir-fried noodles.

Down at 10D

10 Downing Street is a great place to socialise with its foot-tapping music, dim lights and pop food. Their lunch combo offers a soup or drink, a huge spread of Indian, Chinese, or Continental dishes to choose from and dessert. The hot favourites on the menu are the sweet-and-sour American chopsuey, spicy Thai rice, and the saucy pastas.

More than Mexican

Located on Kodambakkam High Road, Una Mas offers bright interiors and self-service. Bite into fiery fish or chipotle chicken with adobo sauce, all served with cilantro rice, refried beans, salad and veggie fajitas — a one-stop solution to all Mexican cravings!
