We have understood how important it is to be reasonably knowledgeable, well informed, and extremely aware for the simple fact that the more we know, the more we can communicate.

Now that we have our thoughts in place, and we have an on going self development programme, let us explore the next step in the process of communication – encoding these thoughts.

The process and the steps of communication are as follows: Sender-Thoughts-Encode-Message-Medium-Receiver-Decode-Feedback.

Our thoughts have to be encoded sensibly and accurately to create messages. But this is easier said than done. Most of the time, our messages are incomplete, confused, wrong or irrelevant. Why? Because this encoding happens in our mind.

State of mind

And what is the normal state of our minds? More often than not, it is disturbed, confused, distracted, anxious, scared, and insecure. How can we ever encode our thoughts with such a state or frame of mind? For us to be expert communicators, it's essential and imperative that our mind is and remains, calm, clear, and strong.

Our mind is always in a constant state of confusion. Millions of thoughts keep flitting in and out, some leaving us euphoric, some depressed, some scared and others totally confused.

This affects our responses to people, situations and experiences leaving us in various states of minds. This goes on during all our waking hours. So how can we, then, encode anything at all? Very simple. All you need to do is to have a fitness routine. This helps to keep your mind alive.

Breathing for relaxation

Close your eyes and relax your face. Now inhale slowly and deeply through your nose (your abdomen should expand) and exhale as deeply and slowly through your mouth (your abdomen has to contract). Your inhalation starts from your abdomen, travels through your chest, throat and onto your nose and then exhale completely and fully through your mouth. Repeat as many times in a day.You will experience the change.

Again most of us have disturbed minds. We have little concentration. Our focus keeps wavering now matter how hard we try. The clearer our mind is, the better we can encode. How do we clear our mind and keep it in this constant state?

Practising meditation is one of the sure solutions for clearing the mind. Alternate nostril breathing is the best. If you can, learn it from an expert from a yoga centre.

Most of us are now the slaves of our minds. It commands and controls us. We will have to reverse this. How do we do this?

Positive thinking

Fill your mind with thoughts that are good, positive, happy and healthy. Count your blessings and be thankful for everything you have!

So start practising this and soon you will experience a mind which is calm, clear and strong.
