The long wait has been worth it. Ishita Dutta’s debut film in Hindi, Drishyam, is due for release and the actor is all excited at being launched with big stars like Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran and Tabu. She says, “I did a Kannada film after which I suddenly got a chance to audition. And before I realised it, I was giving the audition a shot.

It doesn’t matter that I didn’t debut as a heroine; what matters is I started off with a good script, sharing the screen with national award-winners. My character, as daughter to Ajay Devgn and Shriya, is very strong. I was working with Viacom 18 and Panorama Studios; besides, Nishikant Kamat is also a national award-winner. I couldn’t have asked for a better film or team.” Ishita comes from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, where she did her schooling, before relocating to Mumbai. Thereafter, she pursued a diploma course at Anupam Kher’s acting institute. Egged on by her sister Tanushree Dutta, who suggested that she test her skills in front of the camera, Ishita discovered she actually loved being in front of it. She did a couple of commercials too. She says, “Once acting ka keeda lagta hai, you kind of get into it. I haven’t seen the Telugu and Malayalam versions of Drishyam but will probably watch them soon. Ajay, Tabu…they all have a different energy. I was nervous initially, but later, I felt very comfortable working with them.”

Ishita’s Telugu debut, titled Chanakyudu wit h Tanish a few years ago, did not work at the box office. The actor reiterates that one needs to have patience and faith in god and that you will get what you deserve. “This movie happened in 3 days and I was shooting from the third day of my audition. My sister is a huge support; she always told me that films should be a choice between quantity and quality.”

She adds, “We shot in Goa; it is one of my favourite places. In Drishyam , you will see a different part of Goa. We shot for barely a month in RFC and the film is already releasing.”

Like everyone else, she says, “I want to be known for working in good films and be termed a versatile actor.”
