The Queen of Sheba and Cleopatra loved The Dead Sea — more for its minerals, we are assuming. Because of its healing properties, the minerals apparently became part of their beauty regime. Cleopatra even set up a spa by its shores. Since we don’t have the lifestyles of the rich and famous, perhaps making do with products containing minerals from The Dead Sea is an option. SeaSoul started by Sydney-based cosmetologist Manisha Arora, claims to have just that. “All my products contain minerals from The Dead Sea, plant stem cells, Moroccan Argan oil, Noni Fruit and goji berries,” she says. Currently based out of Gurgaon, Chopra has her manufacturing unit in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Why does she only use minerals from The Dead Sea when there are other mineral-rich, natural mud and salts available as well, like the mud from the hot springs of Turkey’s Pamukkale, Rotorua in New Zealand or Iceland’s Blue Lagoon. “Because The Dead Sea has 26 important minerals of which 12 are not found elsewhere,” says Manisha who was in the city recently. Her products are now available at a host of salons here.

SeaSoul started two years back with a line of spa candles. These candles not only have a delightful aroma but the hot wax from it is used as a scrub and for massages. Now the brand makes around 60 varieties of products for manicure and pedicure, facials, face and hair care.

Having worked in Australia and travelled widely, Manisha says, “There’s a difference in the way we go about skincare in India. Globally, it’s about fixing the problem. Here it’s about covering it up. The most common concern people in India have are blackheads, acne and pigmentation and in addition, many don’t know their skin types. Caking the skin with large quantities of cosmetics doesn’t help. “It is important to know your skin type because then you treat it accordingly. If you have good skin you will need minimal make-up,” she says.

For healthy skin

Never use a towel to wipe your face. A lot of people dry their towels in the open and the pollutants settle on the towel.

Always wash you face after getting to work if you have been outdoors.

Don’t touch your face repeatedly.

Go for a facial every 21 days.

Skin care regime doesn’t end with a facial. Continue with home care and use products from the same brand.
