Varun Soni shares his travelling experiences with the readers in his latest book “My Family Travels”

Choosing a holiday destination is a tough call and more so when one plans to take the family on a trip which apart from strengthening bonding is expected to become part of life-long memories. One confers and consults friends and family members while surfing the net for details of the destination chosen before embarking on a family holiday. Here travelogues too provide a great help and now Varun Soni’s recently released book “My Family Travels” encompassing his personal family holidays will definitely prove handy for many desirous of holidaying with their kith and kin.

With an objective of reaching out to families by sharing his experiences, journalist-author, Varun’s fourth book was launched at Ashoka Hotel by actor Mahima Chaudhary who commended the author’s effort to pen a travel guide for families.

Talking about how the “My Family Travels”, the third coffee table book , the author revealed that the idea struck when a friend of his gifted a photo book to her friend as a birthday gift which had photos from a trip the two had undertaken together to Ladakh and Kashmir. “I too wanted to do something similar though I did not want to limit it to mere photographs but also share my experience in different countries with the readers. I wanted to give it a personal touch. I made a list of the places I had been to and collected the photographs. It took more than a year to complete the layout and almost two years to get everything in place.”

Sharing his thoughts about travelling, the writer said that for him it was about interacting with new people and having a taste of varying cultures. “I prefer exploring one country at a time and let my consciousness seep into its landscape and heritage. Soaking in the culture is essential to me,” he averred.

Highlighting a significant aspect of visiting new places, Varun said: “We often have some preconceived notions about places. For instance Las Vegas is known for its casinos and skin show but it is only when I went there that I found out about some beautiful resorts solely serving families. It was this moment of epiphany which made me realise the brittle notions we build about places we haven't been to and only travelling strikes a blow at them and breaks them.”

Driven by his passion for writing Varun chose journalism and published his first book in 2007. He is currently busy working on a Bharti Taneja’s biography which is expected to be released this year.
