With dresses holding sway over the party season, designers go on a creative overdrive to come up with new lines that reflect the spirit of Christmas and New Year. From minimalist styling to extravagant detailing, three designers Rimzim Dadu, Rahul Reddy and Rahul Mishra come together to celebrate the dress in its varied avatars. From simplistic shifts to tiered tulip dresses, the designers experiment with a range of silhouettes to perk up party evenings. If you are smitten by sequins or overwhelmed by the beauty of embroidery, love geometric patterns or plain pin tucks, The R Factor at Collage, Greams Road, presents an updated version of styles and techniques.
RIMZIM DADU
Minimalistic in her aesthetic, Rimzim is inspired by the imperfections around her. She strongly believes fashion is an art form and creates interesting new surfaces and textures with fabric. Fuss-free dresses in bright hues and with touches of luxury mark “My Village,” her label's new line for the season.
DESIGNER'S CUT: The collection is a play on textures. I love playing with vibrant hues to go with the mood of the season. The dresses, tunics and tops are neither Indian, nor Western. They are global!
RAHUL MISHRA
A post graduate from NID (he also won the Pride of NID award), Rahul loves to create clothes that are sensuous and different. His out-of-the-box sensibility continues to draw attention from the design fraternity; it also won him a prestigious scholarship at Instituto Marangoni, Milan. His experience at famed export houses has helped him hone his design skills.
DESIGNER'S CUT: This line “Lineage” signifies the lineal descent from our ancestors or a sequence of species. It's about evolution of traditional crafts and handloom textiles. So, naturally, this is a handwork-centric collection.
RAHUL REDDY
In a short span, Hyderabad-based designer Rahul Reddy has made an impact in the fashion world with his subtle sensibilities. His fabrics are luxurious and his colour stories grab eyeballs.
DESIGNER'S CUT: My Fall-Winter line plays with three-dimensional textures and geometric motifs. I wanted to keep the line predominantly black. But there's also a surprising burst of bright pinks, aubergines and teals. It's very ‘party' in sensibility and the drapes are classy and chic.
