It’s the season when most fashion lovers and observers get in a tizzy. The Lakme Fashion Week 2015 (Winter/ Festive) is under way in the city and it’s the time to spot trends that will appear on the racks of your favourite stores.
As the fashion extravaganza celebrates its 15th year, two designers celebrate their own milestones.
Manish Malhotra marks 25 years in the fashion industry with the launch of his first-ever line for men and Gaurav Gupta will celebrate his tenth as the fashion week’s grand finale designer. Here are some trends that we spotted:
Black is the new blackWhile it was hard to ignore Bangalore-based fashion designer P.E.L.L.A’s all-black line in interesting silhouettes, black definitely seemed to be a favourite with most designers.
Shades of blue, mostly indigo, dominated the runway.
AsymmetryAsymmetry as a trend has been around for a few seasons now on the global runway, and it’s no different here. Asymmetric hemlines, drapes, collar, prints, sleeve — you name it, they were all there. So that’s one trend you know you should retain in your wardrobe.
FlareBe it the sleeve of your crop top or kurtas with sheer palazzos, flared seems to be the way to go.
Quirky prints
Designers Ajay Kumar and Charchit Bafna featured men’s lines as well. Slim pants with jackets and quirky prints were on show.
FusionWhile LFW day two drew attention to traditional Indian textiles, it also helped showcase their versatility. Banaras, ikat, khadi and silk crafted into poncho tops, slit sleeve capes and boxy jackets added a new dimension to the age-old fabrics.
Skinny belts and sash belts did feature but not enough to churn out a trend.
