Picture this. You want to make the perfect diva entrance at the coolest party in town. The LBD is overdone as are other cocktail options. You decide to up the glam quotient in a sari.

It seems like a brilliant plan with only one hitch — draping the lovely six yards. Then begins the mad scramble for helpful aunties, or the friendly neighbourhood beauty parlours. Want to do away with all that and yet make a splash in a sari? Opt for the Insta Saree. Chandra and Neeta of Sakhi have created a sari that can be zipped up like a gown — a single piece with a blouse, pleats and palav. Apart from standard sizes, the sari can be custom made to your measurements. Fabrics used include Lycra blended silk, French lace and net highlighted with brocades and sequins.

Chandra Rajendran, head designer and founder of Sakhi says “The blouse has grandeur and drama while in contrast the sari is a solid monotone. Lycra ensures the snug fit.” Chandra’s daughter, Neeta who is also designer and co-founder of Sakhi adds, “It is perfect for the numerous roles the modern Indian woman takes on.”

Colours include rustic red, emerald green, black, gold, pink, blue or orange.

The collection, priced between Rs. 9,000 and Rs. 18,500 is available both at Sakhi boutiques in Indirangar, Jayanagar and Sadashivanagar in Bengaluru, in Banjara Hills in Hyderabad as well as www.SakhiFashions.com, the online store.
