Manish Gupta's new line being showcased at Collage, Greams Road, on Thursday, is inspired by femininity. The master of cut and craftsmanship has created designs that complement women's individualistic tastes.

“To me, femininity is synonymous with sophistication and elegance. And this I've done by bringing together unusual materials and rare techniques,” says the designer, a regular at fashion pageants and winner of the Best Designer in the Indian Wear category in the first edition of Made in India Marie Claire Awards.

Gupta's creative touches are apparent in the way he uses craft techniques. His kanta embroidery is as fine as print and he uses even elastic and nada to embellish his garments. A lot of detailing has gone into each piece. For instance, a chic black outfit that flares waist downwards has sleeves that speak of the designer's inventiveness. His sense of structure and penchant for architecture are evident in the construction of his garments.

The styles are wearable and there is nothing over the top. Whether it is a kurta, tunic or a dress, the designer leaves his stamp of flawless finish. The tunics are styled in such a way that they can also be teamed with leggings or jeans.

Though there are Gupta's staple ivory and black creations, the designer like his previous “Sunrise” collection tries out some vibrant and deep colours such as fuchsia, red, apricot and plum.
