The summer shows no signs of letting up and everyone is looking for ways to beat the heat. Hemlines are ascending and salons are abuzz with women who cannot manage their manes.
But for those who aren’t ready to bid adieu to their long luscious locks, the ponytail is the perfect solution. And if you think one pony is so plain-Jane, then this is the perfect time to revive the good ole’ days by tying your hair in two ponytails or braids.
According to hairstylist Nisha Xavier, “Wearing two ponytails or plaits is quite the fad now and it isn’t just teeny boppers sporting this look. I’ve seen working women in their 30s wear their hair this way.”
“You needn’t wear them high. Low ponytails and low plaits are the rage now. With so many hair accessories in the market, you don’t really need your boring scrunchie anymore,” Nisha adds.
Tying your hair in two pigtails brings memories of school. “I’ve always had long hair and the school I went to made it compulsory for girls to not only tie their hair in two plaits but to fold it upwards and tie it with a black ribbon. As much as I detested doing that back then, today I often wear two ponytails especially when I go for tennis practice,” says collegian Shruti Aiyappa.
Braids are an eternal favourite and offering veritable proof of this observation is none other than India’s Nightingale, Lata Mangeshkar whose trademark chotis have never failed to grab eyeballs. “At her age, it is unbelievable how an artiste of her caliber has also got the spotlight focused on her hair especially at award functions,” says beautician Sapna Sondhi.
If you aren’t the type that wants to sport this look, there’s always room for innovation with braids.
The French plait is a classic but if you want to do something different, you could wear two instead of just one. Wearing your hair in two sausage plaits is also a look you could try. The chicest braid hairstyle now is the two fish bone hair plaits that offer a Bohemian look.
The braids are not exactly perfect. Instead, they are tousled, giving them a playful feel and garb.
Just like the braid, the thing about the ponytail is that it can always be a part of your fashion repertoire for any given season. Sapna says: “Wearing two ultra low ponytails or wispy ones for those who have soft wavy hair are good options for Spring/Summer 2013. Two ponytails can be worn when you part your hair from the side instead.”
For those who like Alternative Rock band Boys like Girls believe that “two is better than one”, there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t wear two plaits or tie your hair up in two ponytails.
Style is an expression of uniqueness, which comes from being you!
