Beauty and Blossom Kochhar are inseparable. Heading a successful beauty brand for over three decades, Blossom Kochhar can very well be called the face of aromatherapy and natural beauty products in the country. Her brand ‘Aroma Magic’ offers over 50 beauty solution products that are entirely based on natural therapies. “The beauty industry is growing day by day and it’s a challenge to stand out in the clutter of brands. We have managed to hold on to our forte of being purely natural,” says Blossom. “Beauty is nowadays a necessity than a lifestyle. There’s much awareness on skin and hair care and personal grooming and people are willing to shell out to take care of themselves.”

Blossom who was in Madurai to conduct a workshop on her newly introduced products, says that small towns are booming markets for the beauty brands. “When I last visited Madurai a decade ago, there were hardly had participants for my workshop. Today, I see so many of them, well-turned out with make up. Salons and spas are mushrooming in small towns.”

Blossom’s childhood days spent amidst the greenery of the Nilgiris and her schooling at Nazreth Convent in Ooty were instrumental in her inclination towards aromatherapy. “I have never used a tablet to treat cold. The eucalyptus oil was our only resort,” says Blossom. “As a child, I used to pause and smell each of the wayside flowers and leaves at Ooty and I was amazed at the variety of fragrance. They had an impact on me.”

All the ingredients in Aroma Magic’s products are sourced locally from various places across the country – right from lemons, basil, Geranium, peach and plums to vettiver and tulsi. Only the tea tree therapeutic oil is sourced from Australia. “India is a tropical country and it favours the growth of a variety of herbs and flowers,” says Blossom. “Aromatherapy uses the goodness of such natural resources.” “I believe that we should be able to consume or eat anything that we use on the skin. That’s why we never use chemicals in our creams or oils.” Aroma Magic’s products are not just for skin-lightening or beauty, but also for relieving pain and stress. “Beauty is holistic. It’s not skin deep, but works on the mind, body and soul,” says Blossom.

Currently, Blossom Kochhar is working on revamping her brand Aroma Magic. “We have opened experience stores in Delhi, Jaipur and Patiala, which we call ‘Spalons’, where a customer can walk in and try out our various products. Live demos can be given on them and they are allowed to choose products that they like,” she says. “Beauty is something intimate and needs to be experienced. The spalons provide that personalised space and luxury for our customers to relax and feel the effect the product has on their body. We plan to open more such stores.”
