Disney goes ethnic

Prefer ethnic clothes to T-shirts, but still want to sport your favourite Disney characters? The latest collection by contemporary Indian wear brand Anouk gives you the option of fusing both your loves. ‘Disney by Anouk’ infuses fun elements in ethnic wear and is designed for women looking for a contemporary twist to traditional styling and juxtaposes Mickey Mouse prints with trendy Indian silhouettes.

The collection, which was launched by designer Aki Narula and is available exclusively on Myntra.com, features asymmetric dresses, jackets, kurtas, jumpsuits, skirts and palazzos in a bright, playful colour palette of yellows, pinks, blues and greens. The iconic Mickey ears make their presence felt in a variety of prints. The collection is priced between INR 1099 to 4999.

Ruchi Relan, the design head, explains that they chose to highlight Mickey Mouse as he is the most recognisable, and arguably the most loved, of all Disney characters. “That’s why we felt that incorporating the fun and contemporary elements in ethnic wear would be a unique treat for customers,” she says.

According to Ruchi, the collection is inspired by Indian contemporary art with Mughal architecture as an influence. “It is a play of vibrant prints in summer fabrics like rayon and satin modal. Mickey has been very carefully infused with intricate patterns, giving it an ethnic pop yet subtle look, which can be easily carried off by women of diverse age groups. The collection also has anarkalis, long maxi dresses, palazzo pants with crop tops, tunics and capes,” she says.

On the collaboration, Abhishek Maheshwari, VP and head, consumer products, Disney India, says, “Mickey Mouse is a global icon with a fun and optimistic energy that inspires us all, and translates perfectly into fashion. With this collection, Mickey will be seen in an all-new avatar, adding his unique charm to Indian women’s everyday wear.”
